Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett on Monday announced three more department head appointments, two of them new faces to county government.
Pradeep Ganguly, the former chief economist and director of the Office of Business and Economic Research with the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, was tapped to take charge of the county’s economic development department.

Gabriel Albornoz, the past deputy director of the Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers in Silver Spring, will become Montgomery County’s Recreation Director.
And the one returning member of the bunch, Jennifer Barrett, who has been with the county’s Department of Finance since 1995, was named finance director. Barrett said her main goal is continuity, in keeping with the organized manner in which Montgomery’s money was managed by Tim Firestine.
In the immediate future she will have to help Leggett go through the fiscal 2008 budget and make recommendations for the County Council by March. In terms of state funding, Barrett’s role is to check into individual projects.
Albornoz will be responsible for improving recreational opportunities for youth — which has been his focus in past jobs — and the growing senior populations.
Leggett said a big part of the task may be devoting more county funds to after-school programs.
Lastly, Ganguly said his new role will hinge on reaching out to existing businesses in the county and using their background and experiences to draw in more international companies.
The business incubator networks, which are used to get new businesses off the ground, is just a start on what he hopes will be widespread advancement.
Each of these appointments is subject to the County Council’s discretion.
