Jimmy Kimmel teamed up with singer Josh Groban on Monday night to add music to the tweets of 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump, which Groban sang as he played the piano.
“Donald Trump’s tweets will make you laugh, make you cry,” Groban deadpanned as he explained his decision to turn Trump’s Twitter feed into a musical. “But mostly, they’ll make you cry.”
The pair picked some of Trump’s most irreverent tweets for Groban to sing, such as, “I have never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke” and “…WE NEED GLOBAL WARMING!”
The video also showed a bit of Trump’s social media hypocrisy in the form of The Donald promoting his fragrance’s (“Success”) availability at Macy’s, and then later tweeting: “Macy’s stores suck and they are bad for U.S.A.”
Arguably the most intriguing Twitter snippet was Trump’s fascination with the dating lives of “Twilight” stars and former Hollywood couple Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. He tweeted, and Groban sang:
“Robert Pattinson should not take back Kristen Stewart. She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again — just watch.”
Megyn Kelly could have used that tweet as ammunition when referencing the times Trump called women “fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals” during the first Republican presidential debate on Aug. 6.
The Trump video was Josh Groban’s long-awaited sequel to his 2011 Kimmel-produced video, “Josh Groban Sings Kanye West Tweets.”
This is not the first time a late-night comedian has lampooned Trump. Jimmy Fallon has been honing his Trump impression, and James Corden even created a fake game show all about the billionaire.
