The Rand Paul comic is everything you hope it would be

Just in time for the 2016 primaries, Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul is getting his very own comic book.

The comic book, which will be released Wednesday by Bluewater Productions, tells the story of the Kentucky senator who, along with his father, former Texas congressman Ron Paul, has attracted libertarian-minded voters to the GOP by staking out positions on many key civil-liberty issues, including federal surveillance programs, mass incarcerations and drone strikes.

“Though his short time as the Senator of Kentucky hasn’t been without some controversy, Dr. Paul has made an indelible mark on politics,” said the publishers of the comic.

The comic, which is part of Bluewater’s Political Power series, covers the Kentucky lawmaker’s childhood anecdotes, as well as the time he met his his wife, Kelley Ashby, and the controversy surrounding his college years. However, it’s a bit thin on details regarding Paul’s first campaign for the U.S. Senate and his years serving in Congress’ upper chamber.

Bluewater is promising to release additional politically themed comic books this year as primary season draws near.

The company plans to update its current catalog of comic book biographies to include entries for each new candidate who may factor in the 2016 primaries. The group expects to add biographies of Sens. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., as well as for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

Bluewater has already released comics featuring New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Vice President Joe Biden, and former first lady Hillary Clinton. The group has also published materials on former Rep. Michelle Bachmann, R-Minn, President Obama, and one-time GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain, as well as former Govs. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts and Sarah Palin of Alaska.

The group’s president, Darren G. Davis, said he hopes the publishing group faithfully tracks and details the histories of the people competing to lead the United States.

“Growing up, I was a reluctant reader. We hope to reach kids in similar situations that may be more apt to read when a comic book is placed in front of them,” Davis said in a statement. “I have guest taught in schools and found comic books to be an excellent way to reach children and young adults.”

Though GOP presidential hopeful Ted Cruz doesn’t yet have a comic book in his name, and Bluewater hasn’t mentioned whether it plans on releasing one anytime soon, the Texas senator has the next best thing: a coloring book.
