Current TV’s David Shuster has been getting a lot of media attention for his criticism of Fox News Channel’s debate moderators Megyn Kelly, Chris Wallace and Bret Baier. Sunday on CNN, Shuster called the trio’s questions to the candidates last week silly and stupid.
Shuster’s more recent very public breakup with MSNBC seems to be overshadowing the fact that Shuster used to work for Fox. And many reports aren’t calling Shuster out on it. Shuster was Fox News Channel’s D.C. reporter when the cable channel was still in its infancy and then in 2002 he got the boot. “David has held a grudge against Fox News ever since we fired him in 2002,” a spokesperson for Fox News Channel told Yeas & Nays.
Shuster, emailing with FishbowlDC (and misspelling Baier’s name) contends that he still has a lot of “friends” at Fox and that’s the reason why he was so critical. “Speaking to a few of them on Friday/Saturday is what inspired me, in part, to bring up Brett [sic] and Megyn on Sunday,” Shuster wrote. “Several people in the Fox DC bureau were embarrassed by some of the questions in the debate. Furthermore, there seems to be a strong sense that Fox News has lost a lot of credibility/watchability with Brit Hume‘s semi-retirement,” he added.
