Hoards of Hill staffers are sure to be bummed by this news, but the Hawk ‘n’ Dove has been sold. It will reopen, however, just not for about six months.
The folks at Capital Community News are reporting that owner Stuart Long, who opened the popular Capitol Hill bar December 23, 1967, has sold the Hawk, its name and much of its memorabilia to restaurateur Xavier Cervera, who owns the Chesapeake Room, Molly Malone’s and others. Cervera plans to close the bar in October for renovations. He will install dark mahogany paneling and restore three hidden fireplaces before reopening the Hawk in spring 2012.
