Pataki drops out with a shot at Trump

Former New York Gov. George Pataki announced Tuesday night he will suspend his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.

“While tonight is the end of my journey for the White House as I suspend my campaign for president, I’m confident we can elect the right person, someone who can bring us together and who understands that politicians, including the president, must be the people’s servant and not the master,” Pataki said in a video announcement posted to Twitter.

Although Pataki did not disclose who he would endorse, his parting instructions were a shot at Donald Trump and a twist on the billionaire front-runner’s campaign slogan: “Make America Great Again.”

Pataki charged Americans with three tasks, “If we’re truly going to make America great again, we need to elect a president who will do three things: confront and defeat radical Islam, shrink the size and power of Washington, and unite us again in our belief in this great country.”

Pataki’s departure leaves 12 other Republican candidates vying for the party’s nomination.
