Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders released a new ad campaign on Friday that will air in California over the weekend during Hillary Clinton’s fundraising swing through the state.
The Sanders campaign’s latest ad, titled “$27,” highlights the small-dollar donations that have fueled the Vermont senator’s White House bid to date. On the campaign trail, Sanders frequently touts that the average contributions made to his campaign is just over $20.
“If you can’t afford to attend tonight’s event with Secretary Clinton, we invite you to join Bernie’s fundraiser for the low price of turning on your television,” Sanders’ campaign manager Jeff Weaver wrote in a press release Friday afternoon.
According to the Sacramento Bee, Clinton is expected to attend a fundraiser at the home of venture capitalist Shervin Pishever Friday evening where couples must pay $353,000 to sit at the same table as Clinton and Oscar-winning actor George Clooney. The following evening, Clinton will attend a $33,400 per person fundraiser at Clooney’s home in Los Angeles.
Sanders’ new ad is the first to run in California ahead of the state’s June 7 primary. The campaign plans to run it in both the Northern and Southern half of the state at 8 p.m. PST on Friday and Saturday.
“Just as Secretary Clinton’s wealthy donors are sitting down for dinner,” Weaver wrote.
