With the second GOP debate less than a week away, Jeb Bush isn’t backing down from Donald Trump.
When asked by conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt Thursday if he had read the Rolling Stone profile of Trump that made waves a day before, Bush said that he had, calling out Trump’s “me, me, me, me” attitude.
Trump ranks first in the Washington Examiner‘s presidential power rankings while Bush ranks second.
“My motivation is to serve. I’ve learned to have a servant-heart, a Disney joy,” Bush started. “But the idea that this is all about the person running is not a part of our tradition in American politics, and that article is just a reflection of ‘me, me, me, me.'”
“And the disparagement of talented people, and particularly, at the end of that article, Carly Fiorina — I just don’t get it,” Bush continued. “I don’t see how a person believes that they can become president of the United States by insulting everybody.”
In the profile Bush discussed, Trump made some eyebrow-raising comments about former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina. When she came on TV during the interview, Trump railed, “Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!”
Bush went on to point to his record in Florida, during which he says he “disrupted the old order.” The former Florida governor pointed to his taking on the unions and balancing the budget eight years in a row amongst other things.
The attacks from Bush also come on the heels of a more scathing rebuke from Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who blasted Trump on a cavalcade of issues — including on religion.
“When asked, he couldn’t even name a specific or a single Bible verse that was important to him, that had an impact on him,” Jindal said at the National Press Club Thursday morning. “Well, do you know why? It’s clear Donald Trump has never read the Bible. The reason we know he’s never read the Bible? He’s not in the Bible.”
