Poll: Clinton beats Trump, loses to Rubio and Cruz

A new poll shows that likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton would beat Donald Trump in a general election, but would lose to the two freshman senators who are currently trailing Trump for the Republican nomination.

A CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday says Clinton would defeat Trump 52-44 in a general election. That’s an improvement for Clinton from a month ago, when her lead was 48-47.

Trump is currently leading the GOP pack, and is expected to cement that lead in the several primaries being held in the south Tuesday.

But Clinton doesn’t do as well against Sens. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, who are struggling to keep up with Trump in the primaries.

The poll says Clinton loses to Rubio 47-50, unchanged from a month earlier.

It also says Clinton narrowly loses to Cruz, 48-49. Cruz has topped Clinton in hypothetical matchups in the CNN/ORC poll since late December.

Many Republicans are wary of Trump’s dominance in the GOP field, precisely because of polls that show he wouldn’t beat Clinton. But the poll also shows Trump wouldn’t defeat Sen. Bernie Sanders in a general election.

Specifically, it says Sanders would beat Trump 55-43 in a general election.
