Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Saturday compared Hillary Clinton to the only president to ever resign.
“Even Nixon didn’t destroy the tapes,” he said in a statement.
Priebus’s remarks came after the former secretary of state’s attorney disclosed to the House Select Committee on Benghazi that Clinton wiped her personal server clean, deleting all of her emails.
“Clinton unilaterally decided to wipe her server clean and permanently delete all emails from her personal server,” Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., chairman of the Select Committee on Benghazi, said in a statement Friday.
Her attorney added that no third party would examine Clinton’s server.
Priebus noted that the emails may be recoverable.
“It’s imperative an independent third party review the server immediately,” he said. “Unless Mrs. Clinton went to extreme lengths to wipe this server, there are ways to recover this data.”
Gowdy said Clinton’s deletion of her emails could prompt new legal actions.
“It is clear Congress will need to speak with the former secretary about her email arrangements and the decision to permanently delete those emails,” he said.
