Bernie Sanders held an impromptu press conference in Miami Tuesday night to respond to the positive results rolling in Michigan, as he promised that his campaign’s momentum is just beginning.
Sanders ultimately won Michigan.
“What tonight means is both the Bernie Sanders campaign — the people’s revolution, the political revolution we are talking about — is very strong in every part of the country and frankly we believe our strongest areas are yet to come,” Sanders said from a hotel in Miami Tuesday night, as he was campaigning in the state during the day.
Clinton was slated to win the Michigan primary, with most polls showing her having a 15-20 point lead over Sanders. But Sanders scored the upset.
In the last week Sanders won two caucuses, in Maine and Kansas, both with record-breaking turnouts. The Vermont senator contended that “whether we win the polls tonight basically the delegates here are going to be split up” due to how close the polls look.
“We started this campaign 10 months ago 60 or 70 points down in the polls. But what we have seen poll after poll, state after state is a creation of the momentum we need to win,” Sanders said. “So once again this has been a fantastic night in Michigan, we are very grateful for the support we have gotten in that state.”
