Former Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul admitted Monday that the level of hostility GOP senators have for Ted Cruz may be “overstated.”
CNN correspondent Pamela Brown asked the Kentucky senator, who dropped out of the race for the White House in early February, if Republicans in the Senate actually disliked the Tea Party Texan as much as his opponents make it out to be.
“I think that may be overstated,” Paul told Brown.
The libertarian-leaning conservative added he was not interested in endorsing a candidate at this point in the primary race because he is busy running for re-election in the Bluegrass State.
“I’m running for re-election in Kentucky so I think my job is more to unify Republicans rather than to continue to point out weaknesses — what I think are some weaknesses in the candidates,” Paul said. “I want to keep promoting those issues as opposed to sort of being a pundit or a spokesman for any particular candidate.”
