A super PAC supporting John Kasich’s presidential campaign has long taken aim at GOP front-runner Donald Trump, but a new ad takes aim at a different target. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is featured prominently in New Day for America’s ad.
“John Kasich’s an impatient rascal,” a narrator can be hear saying in the ad. “But unlike some, his state is now booming.”
When the narrator reads the words “unlike some,” Christie’s image appears along with text that reads, “$10.2 Billion DEFICIT.” The narrator goes on to say that Kasich has proven he could serve as commander-in-chief “unlike some,” as other presidential candidates appear onscreen including Christie, Trump, Hillary Clinton and Marco Rubio.
“Brought back jobs from Mexico and China. Keep us safe. Make us boom. Because he’s done it before,” the narrator says in the ad. “Only an impatient rascal can bring America back. John Kasich.”
New Day for America’s criticism of Christie is noteworthy because it suggests a shift in attention among Kasich’s supporters. The super PAC has run harsh attack ads against Trump that have highlighted the reality TV star’s controversial statements about African Americans, women and that he would date his own daughter if the two were not related. The ad’s criticism of Christie comes without the New Jersey governor’s name ever appearing in the ad.
Christie and Kasich are also battling for supremacy in New Hampshire, where Christie leads Kasich by three percentage points in RealClearPolitics’ average of New Hampshire polls. The two governors have spent much of their time on the campaign trail in the Granite State and appear to be on a collision course on their prospective paths to the nomination.
The super PAC reportedly began airing the ad in New Hampshire on Wednesday.
Kasich ranks ninth in the Washington Examiner‘s newest GOP presidential power rankings released after Tuesday’s presidential debate.
