Clinton calls Planned Parenthood videos ‘misleading’

Hillary Clinton has said that she has seen excerpts from the Planned Parenthood undercover videos, but criticized them Sunday as being “misleadingly edited.”

Clinton and President Barack Obama were directly challenged by GOP candidate Carly Fiorina at Wednesday’s GOP primary debate to watch the videos. The former secretary of state said that she has watched excerpts of the videos, of which nine have been released and discuss the harvesting of aborted fetal parts for research, but didn’t elaborate on how long those excerpts were.

“These were misleadingly edited and intentionally taken out of context,” Clinton said during an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “If we want to have a debate in this country on whether we should continue doing fetal research then it is not only Planned Parenthood that should be involved in that debate.”

Clinton’s position on the videos has differed throughout the summer. When the first videos were released by the anti-abortion activists Center for Medical Progress, she defended Planned Parenthood.

But in July, she said that she had seen pictures from the videos and found them “disturbing.”

Congress and President Obama are clashing over the funding of Planned Parenthood, which gets $500 million a year in federal funds.

The government runs out of funding on Oct. 1, and conservative senators and House members have opposed passing any spending bill that includes funding for the group. At the same time, Obama has issued veto threats for standalone defunding bills.
