Glover clears the air

It must have been a cringe-inducing headline for actor Danny Glover: “Haiti Earthquake Caused by Global Warming.” The actor made news in January when he conflated the Haitian earthquake and global warming in the same interview. “What happened in Haiti could happen to anywhere in the Caribbean because all these island nations are in peril because of global warming,” Glover said at the time.

Glover clarified what he meant to Yeas & Nays.

“I mentioned global warming in a conversation; let me say this emphatically, clearly, all you have to do is look at the tape,” the actor said.

“I’m saying that everybody knows that there are going to be island countries that won’t be in existence in the next 40 years because of global warming — the plan is how do you evacuate?” he continued.

Glover was in town Sunday for a To Haiti With Love benefit at the W Hotel and appeared alongside “Heroes” actor Jimmy Jean-Louis.

So has this brouhaha been a distraction?

Other comments seemed more attention-worthy, Glover responded. “I didn’t say they were being condemned because of a pact they made with the devil,” the actor said, taking a jab at televangelist Pat Robertson.

Glover plans to travel to Haiti in two weeks.
