Romney: ‘Unlike the other people running’ Kasich has ‘real track record’

Former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney stumped with Gov. John Kasich in Ohio just one day before the state’s presidential primary.

The 2012 Republican nominee has previously stated that he would vote for Kasich in Ohio, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio in Florida, and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in states where he’s Donald Trump’s top opponent. Romney is a leading figure of the anti-Trump movement who is not actively campaigning for president, which brings additional attention for the Ohio governor.

Romney did not offer an endorsement of the governor’s presidential bid writ large, but Romney touted his support for Kasich in Ohio.

“You look at this guy and unlike the other people running, he has a real track record,” Romney said onstage alongside Kasich. “He has the kind of record that you want in Washington, and that’s why I’m convinced that you’re going to do the right thing tomorrow. Agreed?”

Kasich has a narrow lead over Trump in RealClearPolitics’ average of polls, and is either tied or ahead in a series of recent polls. Whether Romney will boost Kasich’s profile in his home state in time for the governor to secure his first victory of the 2016 campaign remains to be seen.

Republicans in five states vote Tuesday, including Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Florida and North Carolina.
