500 days pass without mention of IRS scandal by top networks

A new report found the top three TV networks — ABC, CBS and NBC — have not reported on the Internal Revenue Service’s alleged targeting of conservative groups in more than 500 days.

The Media Research Center’s report comes days after a federal appeals court in Cincinnati, Ohio, rebuffed the government agency for missing a deadline and ordered it to hand over the list of groups it had targeted.

A previous unanimous ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit had given the IRS two weeks to hand over the documents as a result of developments in a class-action lawsuit by the NorCal Tea Party Patriots.

The networks did not cover this week’s news despite previous coverage at the height of the scandal in 2013 and 2014. The Tuesday court decision is not the first major update that has been overlooked by the mainstream media.

“Since then there have been multiple revelations gone unreported by the networks including Barack Obama’s Justice Department ending its investigation without any criminal charges filed for Lois Lerner and the subsequent announcement that the House had begun procedures to impeach IRS Commissioner John Koskinen,” MRC researcher Geoff Dickens wrote.

CBS and NBC last reported on it in October 2014 while ABC last updated the public on the legal matter nearly two years ago on May 8, 2014.
