The campaign arm of a conservative political advocacy group pointed to some Super Tuesday losses as evidence that Donald Trump can and should be stopped to save the Republican Party.
David McIntosh, president of Club for Growth Action, said his group ran ads against Trump in both Arkansas and Oklahoma with some success.
“As CFG Action showed in Iowa, and now in Arkansas and Oklahoma, Donald Trump can be stopped. And he must be, before he costs conservatives the White House, the Senate and the Supreme Court,” McIntosh said. “CFG Action is confident going forward that, with sufficient resources, Trump can be stopped in the winner-take-all states. And this is precisely the plan.”
Sen. Ted Cruz won Iowa earlier last month and was named the winner in Oklahoma Tuesday night. With 87 percent of votes in, Cruz was up almost six points on Trump.
Trump won Arkansas, notching his sixth win of the night. The Associated Press had not yet called the race for any candidate.
Overall, Trump swept the night and performed well in states across the country from Georgia to Massachusetts.
