Actor Mickey Rooney came before Congress this week to tell a terrible tale of elder abuse. The 90-year-old star, who appeared in classics like “The Black Stallion,” told members of the Special Senate Committee on Aging Wednesday that he had been taken advantage of by a family member who abused his finances, according to the Associated Press.
“I felt trapped, scared, used and frustrated,” Rooney said during his testimony. “But above all, when a man feels helpless, it’s terrible.”
The committee is currently looking at legislation that would help curb abuses of senior citizens.
During his trip to Washington, Rooney did not identify which family member was responsible for meddling with his finances, but he currently has a restraining order against his stepson Chris Aber, to keep Aber away until an April court date, the AP reported.
