When Yeas & Nays last caught up with designer Jason Wu, he told us he was a little too busy for the first lady.
“Well, you know, right now I’m just really busy working on the fall collection, expanding the collection, and I definitely have my work cut out for me,” Wu said back in November, adding he had never met the woman who basically started his fashion career overnight.
But this week, he’s got Michelle Obama penciled in.
He will join her Tuesday at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History when she donates her inaugural ball gown to the institution. When Obama stepped out in Wu’s single-strap floor-length white chiffon gown at her husband’s inauguration she turned the 27-year-old designer into a household name.
Wu’s creation will join 10 other dresses from first ladies as part of the new “A First Lady’s Debut” gallery, which is part of the First Ladies Collection at the Smithsonian.
