It’s not just the first lady who flees the White House from time to time. First lady Michelle Obama admitted in an interview aired on Wednesday morning’s “Today Show” that she sneaks out of the White House “as much as possible” and sometimes even Bo, who turned three this week, comes along.
“I actually took Bo to Petco,” FLOTUS told NBC’s Al Roker. “The cashier asked me, ‘oh, what kind of dog is that?’ I said, ‘a Portuguese water dog,’ he didn’t recognize us because he didn’t expect that we would be in Petco,” she continued, noting that the cashier finally figured it out upon seeing the first lady’s credit card.
Obama said she occasionally ducks into Chipotle, Starbucks and Baskin-Robbins unnoticed as well. “And it’s amazing how people don’t recognize you,” she said. She was detected, however, last last month when taking a shopping trip to Target in Alexandria.
