Biden’s office trashes Politico story as ‘false,’ ‘offensive’

The vice president’s office is pushing back against a story alleging that Vice President Joe Biden himself was the source of the “leak” that his belated son Beau’s dying wish was for his father to seek the presidency.

Politico on Tuesday reported that Biden spoke to New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd for her Aug. 1 column about one of his final conversations with Beau, who died of brain cancer May 30.

“The bottom line on the Politico story is that it is categorically false and the characterization is offensive,” a vice presidential spokesman stated on Tuesday.

The story was seen as a sign that Biden is making a series of precise calculations on exactly how to enter the 2016 race for the White House. But it also led some to criticize Biden for apparently using a personal family tragedy as a way to gain support for his supposed bid.
