A Florida State attorney, whose office will handle battery charges against Donald Trump’s campaign manager, donated to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign as recently as January and belongs to the Democratic front-runner’s “Florida Leadership Council.”

Dave Aronberg, who serves as state attorney for the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, previously served as a Democratic state senator in the Florida legislature and is an active member of Clinton’s campaign operation in the Sunshine State.

Federal Electon Commission records show Aronberg contributed $1,000 to Clinton’s campaign in late January, as first reported by the Boston Herald.

Aronberg’s executive assistant Michael Edmondson said the case involving Lewandowski, who turned himself into authorities Tuesday morning after being charged with battering a female reporter earlier this month, will be handled by the North County Courthouse in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Neither Edmondson nor his colleague Natalie Cruz would respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment about Aronberg’s political activity and whether it could affect the case.

“That’s not an appropriate question,” Cruz told the Examiner during a phone call.

“We don’t respond to political campaign questions,” Edmondson later said, adding that “[the Examiner’s] question has been asked and answered.” He gave a similar response to the Herald.

Lewandowski has yet to address the charges in public and an interview between him and Fox News’ Eric Boiling announced Tuesday afternoon was later postponed. He is set to appear in court the first week of May.
