A handful of Kennedys assembled for the D.C. premiere of “Ethel,” Rory Kennedy’s cinematic tribute to her mother, at the Motion Picture Association of America on Thursday night. A healthy-looking Ethel Kennedy was on hand to mingle and watch her daughter’s film.
“My mother really hates her name, so every time I say the name of the film, she starts cringing,” Rory Kennedy told the audience before the screening. She added, “She doesn’t particularly like talking about herself.”
Lucky for audiences, the Kennedy matriarch did talk about herself a little for her daughter’s camera. Among the antics she discussed: stealing her neighbor’s horse; crashing a scooter in Italy; and having the entire presidential Cabinet knocked into the pool during one of her parties. Kennedy described it all in a wry, eye-rolling style. “Why should I have to answer all these questions?” she demanded of her daughter in the film. “Such a bad idea.”
