Marco Rubio rakes in $1.25 million as a presidential candidate

Twenty-four hours was all it took for Marco Rubio to rake in $1 million.

During his first full day as a presidential candidate — he launched his campaign Monday night from Miami, Fla. — the Florida senator raised $1.25 million, a source close to the campaign said Wednesday.

On Tuesday, his campaign aggressively pushed for donations digitally — a move that has paid off.

According to the source, Rubio had hoped to raise $1 million over the course of three months: April, May and June. The true amount of money hauled in by Rubio will be publicly reported to the Federal Election Commission in July.

He can only accept up to $2,700 per donor, but most online donors chip in around $10 or $15.

Rubio’s Republican counterparts who have launched a presidential campaign — Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky — also each raised $1 million online in their first 24 hours as candidates.

Allies aligned with Rubio have also created Conservative Solutions PAC, a political organization that can raise and spend unlimited cash on his behalf.
