Fact Check: Did Chick-fil-A’s CEO Make a Disparaging Racist Statement?

Internet hoaxes, like bad stand-up comedy or chain restaurant themes, often struggle with originality. That’s why you’ll see old stories re-emerge year after year.

An article from SMHWTF News (which we assume stands for “shake my head what the f**k” and isn’t the random keyboard-bashings of a toddler) claimed that Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy said “We don’t like the blacks.”

The article gained popularity on Facebook and received a few hundred comments, many of which accused the article of being fake. Indeed it is. The article appeared back in 2012 on satire and hoax websites.

SMHWTF News used a picture of a little girl in a KKK outfit with an “Eat Mor Chikin” sign amateurishly photoshopped on top. Hoax websites used this same picture to falsely accuse White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders of being in the KKK as a girl.

The website is associated with the Facebook page @AllahGodKing, which has more than 950,000 likes and posts a mixture of false information, memes, videos, and zombie conspiracy theories.

SMH WTF indeed.
