Bosnian Serb war criminal Karadzic convicted of genocide

Radovan Karadzic was found guilty of war crimes and genocide in a trial conducted in The Hague Thursday.

Karadzic, a Bosnian Serb, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for crimes committed in the 1992-1995 Yugoslav war.

He was convicted on 10 of 11 counts, and is one of the most well-known war criminals associated with Bosnian Muslim and Croat genocide.

Karadzic is a psychiatrist by training and served as the first president of what is known as Republika Srpska, a Serbian entity within Bosnia. He was apprehended in Belgrade in 2008.
