Sens. Dick Durbin, John Cornyn retain seats

Incumbent Sens. Dick Durbin of Illinois and John Cornyn of Texas each won their re-election campaigns on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.

Durbin, an Illinois Democrat, has been in office since 1997. He has served as Senate majority whip, the second highest position in the Democratic Party leadership in the Senate, since 2007.

Cornyn, a Texas Republican, has been in office since 2002. He is the Senate minority whip for the 113th Congress.

Both were heavily favored in their re-election bids.
