LeBron James will not only grace the screen at this year’s Silverdocs film festival in Silver Spring, but if the basketball gods are kind to us locals, he’ll grace the theater as well.
James and his high school teammates are the subject of “More Than a Game,” the festival’s featured film on opening night, June 15.
“LeBron is planning to attend, should he not be in a basketball game,” said Sky Sitney, the festival’s artistic director.
Another film subject she hopes will make an appearance is someone with a little bit more local caché — Councilman and “Mayor for Life” Marion Barry. “The Nine Lives of Marion Barry,” directed by Washingtonians Dana Flor and Toby Oppenheimer, closes the festival, and Sitney said he’s scheduled to attend, pending any health — or legal — issues.
Muhammad Ali will also be on hand during the week, for the premiere of the film “Facing Ali,” which he executive produced.
And one film that’s sure to be of interest to many Washingtonians is “Convention,” in which eight documentary filmmakers attempted to capture the behind-the-scenes planning that went into the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver.
