Dr. Ben Carson lit up social media with a simple response to the mass shooting in Oregon where witnesses say nine people were murdered for being Christians.
In posts on both Facebook and Twitter, Carson who is No. 3 in the Washington Examiner‘s presidential power rankings, appears in a picture holding up a sign reading “I Am A Christian” and urged his followers on both social media platforms to change their Facebook profile picture or Twitter avatar to a picture reading #IAmAChristian.

As of 2 p.m. Saturday, the posts containing Carson holding the sign has garnered nearly 6,000 retweets on Twitter and just shy of a million likes on Facebook. Meanwhile the post urging his fans to change their profile picture to the “#IAmAChristian” image has received over 235,000 likes.
The famed neurosurgeon’s post come after Chris Harper-Mercer shot and killed nine students at Umpqua Community College on Thursday. Students have recounted that the gun man he asked his victims to tell him their faith and executed those who responded they were Christians.
Carson’s viral post has earned him over 4.1 million Facebook fans, the most of any presidential candidate on either side of the aisle, and replacing Donald Trump in the number one position.
