First lady Michelle Obama will be celebrating her 48th birthday Tuesday, and if past years are an indicator, she should expect a fancy dinner with her husband and maybe some friends.
We asked Eddie Gehman Kohan, the editor of Obama Foodorama, where she thought FLOTUS might go. “While it’s dangerous to play fantasy football with the first lady’s birthday dinners, I personally would send the Obamas to the stunning Inn at Little Washington, but the optics of that — a longish motorcade, a pricey menu, suggest that it won’t happen,” she told Yeas & Nays.
A more suitable option might be Bibiana Osteria-Enoteca, because the Obamas seem to like Italian for celebrations, and has the option for privacy thanks to the steel-bead curtain that can screen off a portion of the dining room. “It’s chic, and can be intimate,” Kohan said.
Kohan also suggested chef Johnny Monis‘ new Isaan Thai place, Little Serow. “The Obamas liked their dinner at Moni’s Komi, and the $45 prix fixe will not cause the predictable screaming in headlines,” Kohan said.
In the past the first lady’s birthday dinners have taken place at The Source, Restaurant Nora and Equinox.
