Sen. Barbara Boxer shot down rumors that she would resign from her seat, but said she is still undecided about running again.
“I’m not resigning, of course not,” the California Democrat, who has held the seat since 1992, told reporters in San Francisco on Friday, according to The San Francisco Chronicle.
But the 73-year-old senator made no guarantee she will run for a fifth term in 2016: “I haven’t decided,” she said.
Rumors started because of the low amount of money she has fundraised this year. In 2008, about two years before her last re-election bid, she had nearly $3.5 million in her campaign account. Federal campaign finance reports show she had just under $200,000 at the end of June.
“She is not running for re-election,” a longtime Democratic fundraiser with deep ties to Boxer said recently.
