Emanuel awarded for Best Political Apology; Arenas nominated

Just in time for the Pulitzers, fictional pundit character Martin Eisenstadt (who once tricked the L.A. Times and MSNBC) is back at the political shenanigans.

This time, the tricksters — actor Eitan Gorlin and director Dan Mirvish — are handing out awards for Best Crafted Apologies from the phony think tank “The Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy.” (After President Warren Harding, of course.)

Rahm Emanuel was awarded best political apology in a fierce competition against former President Carter, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, Virginia Gov. Robert McDonnell and Gen. Stanley McChrystal.

About Emanuel’s victory, the Harding Institute’s Web site reads: “After calling someone a “f—ing retard,” his private apology was accepted publicly by Timothy Shriver (a political ally and Kennedy) on behalf of the Special Olympics, proving that acceptance of apologies is more important than apology itself.” The site also features the complete list of nominees and their achievements.

A nominee in the sports section, local bad boy Gilbert Arenas, was commended for “asking forgiveness from former Wizards owner Abe Pollin, who is dead.”
