LeBron James is the forgiving type. Or maybe he’s just not a dog lover.
In an appearance in D.C. on Friday, the NBA star said he’s happy that embattled NFL quarterback Michael Vick is getting another chance to play, and that if he could, he’d even be the one to give him that chance.
“I was excited to see Michael Vick get resigned,” said James, who added that he loved watching Vick play. “If we owned a franchise, I would have signed him right away,” he said.
King James’ comments came during an afternoon-long festival at Kastles Stadium, sponsored by Nike and Lionsgate films, to promote “More than a Game,” the documentary about his high school team. The movie premiered at the Silverdocs Film Festival in Silver Spring in June, and opens nationwide in October. The event was part of a promotional tour that will take James and his former teammates to China, Paris London, Los Angeles and New York over the next two months.
“I knew this was going to be a lot of laughs, a lot of jokes, to be able to share this with the guys I grew up with,” James told the crowd, in between games among local all-star and AAU teams — including one sponsored by NBA all-star Carmelo Anthony, who came to watch.
James also played some shoot-around games with local players, and threw up the opening tip for one of the games.
Local tattoo artist Cynthia Rudzis presented James with a special Washington edition of his Nike Air Max LeBron VII shoes, complete with the city seal and city motto.
On Thursday night, James and his friends attended a screening at Gallery Place, where former Georgetown coach John Thompson Jr. was spotted.
