Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus will be the first one to tell you he didn’t know what his parents were thinking naming him Reince.
“You’ve got to admit I have a pretty weird name, right? Who names their kid Reince?” he asked the audience at USA Today’s 30th anniversary party Thursday night. “I can promise you guys, I’m as normal as they come. My kids are named Jack and Grace, so we went the opposite direction of my parents,” he continued.
He also taught those watching a little trick. “Someone told me the other day that if you take the vowels out of Reince Priebus, have you guys seen this? You get RNC and, it gets better, the last name PR BS — so it’s very fitting.” Priebus was supposed to be prognosticating about what politics would look like in 30 years, but instead started the discussion with USA Today’s Susan Page and Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker by joking that Reince could be a future baby name trend. “It’s a fad now,” he suggested.
