Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Thursday that all Donald Trump is offering voters is a “stream of consciousness” that fails to address the major problems America is facing.
“I mean, it’s like a panoply of mistakes and outrageous statements. You know what it is with Donald? It’s just a stream of consciousness,” he said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Thursday morning.
“We’re dealing in such a serious time with the problem of global security, terrorism and here at home very poor economic growth, many feeling as though they’ve got no future. You can’t operate like this. You are going to be president of the United States. People around the world must be having a field day, and you know what Donald ought to be happy about is that Jon Stewart’s not running ‘The Daily Show,'” he added.
The comments come after Kasich released a statement early hitting Trump for a variety of statements made over the past 24 hours.
“The past 24 hours revealed in the clearest way yet that Donald Trump is not prepared to be president. On top of all his previous inflammatory statements, yesterday he proposed punishing women who receive abortions, attacked the Geneva Conventions and said he’d nominate Supreme Court justices based on who will look into Hillary Clinton’s email scandal,” the statement says.
Trump argued Wednesday that abortion should be illegal and that women who get them should be punished, a comment he since walked back.
Kasich also said that Trump is “not ready” to be commander in chief and that he will “not be the nominee.”
According to the Ohio governor, who trails both Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in delegate count, there is a path to victory for him leading up to the Republican National Convention in July.
“What, am I supposed to get out and leave it to these guys?” he said in response to those who say he should get out of the race. “Once we get beyond Wisconsin, I will begin to roll up delegates and get momentum going into the convention.”
Kasich also pointed out that he can beat Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in a general election, something he said Trump or Cruz cannot do.
