Sanders dodges on how much he’d expand government

Hillary Clinton attacked Bernie Sanders for refusing to say what the upper limit of government spending would be if he was president.

When asked “how much government would expand under a Sanders presidency,” the democratic socialist immediately switched topics, saying that the current economy is “rigged” and that the United States should “join the rest of the world” in providing for its citizens in terms of healthcare, education and employment.

“Of course there would be a limit,” Sanders said during the Democratic debate in Milwaukee on Thursday night. “In my view the government of a democratic society has a moral responsibility to play a vital role in making sure that all our people have a decent standard of living.”

The former secretary of state immediately pounced on Sanders, claiming that she had seen estimates that Sanders’ proposals would grow the federal government by 40 percent. Citing his healthcare proposal, she said that the numbers Sanders have produced “don’t add up” and that both candidates should be required to be honest about the costs of their proposals.

“This isn’t about math, this is about peoples lives,” Clinton added.

Later on the debate when further pressed about the costs of her own plans, Clinton claimed that her plans would not cost more than $100 billion per year and wouldn’t put the country further in to debt.

Sanders countered that his plans do add up, stating ” Let me be clear, every proposal I have introduced can be paid for.”
