Fourteen people are dead and 17 injured following a mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif.
Police and federal agents killed two suspects. Law enforcement officials identified one man involved in the shooting as Syed Farook, who was born in Illinois. Police identified the woman as Tashfeen Malik, Farook’s wife, who was born in Pakistan. Farook met Malik online and she left Saudi Arabia to join him in the U.S.
A third suspect was taking into custody, but authorities now believe that only Farook and Malik were involved.
The couple entered a social services building at 1300 S. Waterman Ave around 11 a.m. Pacific time Wednesday and immediately started shooting.
The suspects, reportedly wearing masks and body armor, left the crime scene, apparently in a dark-colored SUV. They were tracked down by security services and there was a firefight in which two of the suspects were killed.
The shooting took place at a holiday gathering of employees of the San Bernardino County’s Department of Public Health.
President Obama and several leading Democratic politicians including presidential candidate Hillary Clinton responded quickly to news of the shooting by calling for more gun control.
A police officer is among the 17 wounded in the original attack.
Various federal agencies are assisting local law enforcement with the investigation and said they do not know the suspects’ motives.
