Cable television had plenty of opportunities to poke fun at Wednesday night’s Republican debate at the Reagan library, but few have taken their critique of the dueling participants to this level of the Daily Show, particularly the fireworks between Mitt Romney and the field’s new frontrunner, Rick Perry. But on the Daily Showthis week, comedian Jon Stewart took his own look at Perry’s down-home demeanor and his early shots at Romney in contrast with Romney’s big ideas about creating a “jobs machine” to fix the economy, which is detailed in a Kindle single now available on Amazon, though Romney can’t tell you how much it costs (it’s free). He also poked fun at Romney’s idea that any new regulation should be offset by removing an existing regulation “of equal scale,” which Stewart called “brilliantly arbitrary,” and Romney’s statement that the “average American ought to have the highest income in the world,” which Stewart called “mathematically impossible” — all leading Stewart to conclude, “Oh my God, Rick Perry is going to be our next President!”
