Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has drawn the ire of disco fans with some ill-timed comments disparaging the Bee Gees.
Speaking to a friendly conservative crowd in St. Petersburg, Rubio got laughs with a joke about the nation overcoming challenges in the 1970s, like Jimmy Carter’s presidency. The mood of the crowd quickly soured when Rubio added “We had to overcome disco…and the Bee Gees.” Laughs turned to boos.
Marco fired back on Twitter. “Those giving me grief for my Bee Gees comment, get Nicki Minaj’s new album to hear what good music sounds like.” Minaj, the colorfully coiffed rapper who drew the ire of the Catholic Church for her Grammy performance, has not publicly responded to Rubio’s endorsement.
