Sen. Harry Reid is not pleased with his Republican counterparts.
The Senate Minority leader said he will force a vote on Loretta Lynch’s attorney general nomination if Senate Republicans continue to delay it. Lynch was nominated in November, but debate across the aisle in Capitol Hill has delayed her confirmation.
“We’ve put up with this far too long and we’re going to need to have a vote on her very soon that’s created by Mitch McConnell or I’ll create one,” the Nevada Democrat said in an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow aired Thursday night. “I can still do that. I know parliamentary procedure around here and we’re going to put up with this for a little while longer but not much.”
When questioned by Maddow whether he has the power to override Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Reid said he “absolutely” has the power.
“If we don’t get something done soon I will force a vote,” Reid said. “I had a conversation today with a number of Republicans and told them really to get her done or I will make sure they will have an opportunity to vote against her.”
Politicians have continued to banter back and forth about not just her confirmation, but why her confirmation has been delayed for so many months.
Reid, who said last month he will not seek re-election in 2016, has been giving candid interviews off late. Earlier this week, he had criticism for just about everyone in Washington, D.C. in an interview with CNBC’s John Harwood.
