The White House’s own internal estimates heralded more bad news for efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare, according to a report Monday.
The White House forecasted 2 million more people would lose health coverage than the 24 million people the Congressional Budged Office estimated would lose coverage over the next decade if the Speaker Paul Ryan-backed House bill becomes law.
Much of that dropoff, 17 million people, would be due to a reduction in Medicaid expansion, which was the main driver of increased coverage under Obamacare.
The estimate was reported by Politico Monday night, as the Trump administration has not yet released the estimate to the public.
House Republicans had been pushing back against the CBO estimates.
They have pointed out that the congressional number crunchers also found the costs of insurance would significantly decrease. They have used this finding to argue that more Americans could then afford to buy their own insurance.
But now Ryan and company will have even worse numbers from the Trump administration to contend with.
