Donald Trump blasted Ted Cruz on Twitter Monday night by claiming the Texas senator’s recent drop in a Fox News poll of Iowa Republicans is the result of him lying on the campaign trail.
“Cruz going down fast in recent polls — dropping like a rock. Lies never work!” Trump tweeted. The New York billionaire also called Cruz a “nervous wreck” based on “reckless changes” he has made in recent weeks to his campaign strategy.
The remarks were likely fueled by Cruz’s move to fundraise against Trump and plans to launch a digital ad Tuesday that will criticize Trump’s views of Hawkeye State residents.

In the past two months, both have gone back and forth in Iowa polls, causing each candidate to attack the other.
Trump’s attacks on Cruz have primarily focused on his Canadian birthplace. At a rally in Iowa on Monday, Trump asked the audience if he should sue Cruz over his eligibility to be president “just for fun” since he’s “so good at this stuff.”
Cruz is currently first in the Washington Examiner‘s presidential power rankings, with Trump one spot behind him.
