Rubio snags second Senate endorsement

Marco Rubio earned his second big endorsement in two days, as Montana Sen. Steve Daines announced his support for the Florida senator’s 2016 campaign Tuesday.

Daines said in a statement to The Washington Examiner. “Marco represents the next generation of conservative leadership and is a leader who will inspire and unite our country.”

Daines’ endorsement comes a little more than 24 hours after Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner announced his endorsement for Rubio, who has gained momentum after his widely-lauded debate performance last Thursday in Boulder, Colo.

Fox News’ Kevin Corke was the first to report Daines’ announcement.

The Montana senator’s announcement echoes that of Gardner’s, who told Fox News on Monday that the U.S. needs “a new generation of leadership.” He added that Rubio “presents this nation with the greatest possibilities and opportunities to meet the challenges of the next generation.”

According to the latest RealClearPolitics average, Rubio currently sits third in polling nationally and in New Hampshire behind Ben Carson and Donald Trump, while polling fourth in Iowa behind the outsider duo and Sen. Ted Cruz. In addition, Rubio currently tops the Washington Examiner’s latest power rankings.
