Molly Ringwald, former teen movie queen turned writer, popped by the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue on Wednesday night to read from her new work of fiction, “When It Happens To You.” She also endured a question-and-answer session with some very, very enthusiastic ’80s movies fans.
One man described into the microphone how he felt when John Hughes died. “It felt like your pancreas was ripped out,” he said. He called Ringwald’s appearance at the Oscars after his death “the best catharsis I felt.”
A young woman thanked her for being a redhead. “I had a difficult time being a redhead until I saw you and I saw how beautiful having red hair can be, and is,” she said.
Another man suggested the title of “Pretty In Pink” be changed to “Pretty In Age.” “You look wonderful,” he said.
Ringwald handled it all with aplomb. When asked if she ever gets tired to people quoting her movies back to her, she said no. “I’m still proud of them,” she said. “As long as they don’t have a line about Long Duk Dong.”
