Texas Sen. Ted Cruz believes Arizona Sen. John McCain has intentionally sought to boost Florida Sen. Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign by raising questions about Cruz’s eligibility for the presidency.
McCain said Cruz’s eligibility is “worth looking into.” But Cruz believes McCain’s words betray an ulterior motive.
“I think it is no surprise to anybody that John McCain is going to be supporting Marco Rubio in this election,” Cruz told Bloomberg. “It’s no surprise at all that he’s trying to do what he can to help the candidate that he’s favoring who he thinks shares policy positions with him.”
McCain, who supported South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham’s failed presidential bid, has never been a fan of Cruz. And McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential nominee, faced similar questions about his own eligibility for the presidency because he of his birth outside the continental United States.
Cruz ranks first in the Washington Examiner‘s newest GOP presidential power rankings.
