Tony Perkins endorses Ted Cruz

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for president. The Family Research Council is an influential Christian conservative group and Perkins’ support may help Cruz enlist additional evangelical voters to his cause.

Perkins told Fox News he has watched Cruz do exactly what he said he would do when campaigning for the U.S. Senate, and he trusts the Texas senator to shake things up as president of the United States.

“After looking at these candidates, talking with them and I have many friends in this race, but I believe the one who is best positioned, best prepared to lead this nation forward, pulling it out of the tailspin that this president has put us in, I believe is Ted Cruz,” Perkins said. “He is smart. He’s bold, much like you [Megyn Kelly]. He’s not afraid to upset people to do the right thing.”

Perkins said he finds Donald Trump “interesting,” but added that he “trust[s] Ted” and knows Cruz would defend the Constitution as president. In the end, Perkins said his personal relationship with Cruz made a crucial difference in his ultimate decision to support Cruz.
