Marco Rubio set his sights on the winner-take-all state of Florida after an underwhelming showing on Super Tuesday.
Rubio rallied supporters in his home state around the idea that the future of the ‘conservative movement’ counts on their votes on March 15, even as results, at the time of his speaking, showed that he has still failed to win a single state this primary season.
“We have some states awaiting for me in the next few days, but then we’re coming to Florida and two weeks from tonight you will send a message to the nation and the world that America’s greatest days are yet to come,” Rubio told the crowd.
Rubio then launched into Spanish to rally the Miami crowd before switching back to English.
“Florida, I know you’re ready,” Rubio continued. “The pundits say we’re underdogs, I’ll accept that. We’ve all been underdogs, this is a community of underdogs, this is a state of underdogs, this is a country of underdogs, but we will win. And when we do, and when we do, we will do what needs to be done and our children will be the freest and most prosperous Americans that ever lived and the American Dream will change more lives than ever before.”
Rubio tried to argue that his attacks on Donald Trump over the past five days depressed Trump’s performance, even though the businessman was declared the winner in five states with other ones still outstanding. Ted Cruz won at least two states, including his home state of Texas.
