Fox commentator trashes network’s debate as a ‘destroy Trump debate’

Todd Starnes, a Fox News commentator and radio host, thinks his network’s Republican presidential debate was framed to bring down Donald Trump.

Through Thursday night’s debate, Starnes put out a series of messages on Twitter that were critical of the moderators’ questions and their demeanor toward the 10 candidates on stage.

“So this isn’t a ‘Bash Trump’ debate. This is a ‘Destroy Trump’ debate,” read one of Starnes’ tweets, apparently referring to several times Trump was asked to defends his sometimes fluid political positions on issues like abortion. “But Trump is still standing.”

At one point, moderator Megyn Kelly asked candidate Scott Walker if he is so against abortion that would “really let a mother [whose life is in danger] die rather than have an abortion?”

Starnes tweeted, “That abortion question — disgusting.”

Trump himself was critical of the moderators, calling their line of questioning of him “unfair” and he said that Kelly, who perhaps asked the most aggressive questions of Trump, behaved “badly.”

Starnes did not return a request for comment from the Washington Examiner media desk.
