Hillary Clinton and her ‘special breakfast’

In the summer of 2011, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton responded to an email from her aide Huma Abedin about problems coordinating Libya’s rebel forces with a question about whether her hotel would be serving her a “special breakfast.”

“The hotel manager asked me last night to try their special breakfast,” she wrote back. “They may try to send it up — did they?”

Abedin replied that they had not, but said they did ask if Clinton wanted “masala” tea. “I’ll find out what it is,” Abedin said.

But Clinton made a snap call and decided to try the tea.

“Let’s try it and maybe some fresh mangoes,” she said.

“OK,” replied Abedin.
